This article talks about the decline of demands and supply of husbands. In my opinion, this article is saying that the decline of demand and supply of husbands is because of the growing power of women. In the older days, society put women on a lower status than man. Women now want to work more and earn money rather than become a housewife in some places. Also, women with degrees want to use their degrees to get good jobs rather than find a husband. Because the demand for husbands are decreasing, marriage terms now tend to go towards a women's needs rather then the men's needs. The main reason that the supply of women wanting to marry is because of "renegotiating" gender roles. In a more traditional married family, the man does the jobs and brings home the money while the wife stays at home and takes care of the kids and house. However, due to the evolving society we now live in, these positions are now changing. The roles are spread more evenly between the husband and wife. Richer couples are more likely to marry because, according to the article, they can afford hiring other people to do the jobs for them (e.g. child care, house care etc.)
Because of the change in gender roles, I think that society will find it difficult to evolve to accommodate this change. This is because in history, people have always struggled to adapt and evolve to accommodate new technology and changes in the fundamentals of being in a society. For example, with the development of hand phones and tablets, older people (60+) find it difficult to use these tools because they have never seen it in their lives and that it is too "complicated and complex". Another example is the way children of all ages spend their time. In the modern society, children play more video games in their spare time. Rather than play lego or board games, children are now on iPads and PCs playing video games. A lot of parents cannot accept this as in their youth they spent time outside and so they cannot stand seeing their children play 6 hours of games inside. All these changes in society causes some confusion and chaos, but before long, everything I mentioned will feel normal. Eighty year-olds will be playing console games during their free time and parents will not feel so worried about their children playing games all the time in the house. Husbands and wives will be sharing equal roles and it will seem normal. Other "complications" and "changes" in societ
